From Philadelphia, Gail Marten began singing in 1980, in Maryland. Marten performs at festival, jazz clubs, and private events. In the 1990s, she appeared at the Omni, Hyatt Regency, Hilton, Radisson, Sheraton, Renaissance, Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, Baltimores Pier Six Concert Pavilion, Ethels Place, Eubie Live!, West End Club (NY), Rita Dimitris, Charlies-Georgetown, and the Hilton Hotel (UK). She worked with jazz notables Larry Willis, Cyrus Chestnut, George Colligan, Richard Johnson, Unified Jazz Ensemble, Clem Ehoff, Charles Covington, Jeff Wilson, Dick Durham, Bob Diener, Billy Colucci, Unified Jazz Ensemble, Tim Murphy, Reuben Brown, Todd Simon, Abdu Rashid Yaya, Benny Waters, O'Donel Levy, Steve Novosel, Greg Hatza, Darius Scott, Tom Lagana, Herman Burney, Amy Shook, Alfonso Rondon, Marty Knepp, Ricky Loza, Alfredo Mojica, Victor Dvoskin, Gary Grainger, Ron Kearns, Whit Williams, Ron Kearns, Sam King, Arnold Sterling and others. Her CDs are heard on radio stations, worldwide, and her music is included on sixteen CDs produced by EQ Music and Elm Records based in Singapore. Produced with Clem Ehoff, Beyond The Rainbow, Pure Joy, and Is It Love won awards. In Love Again, featuring pianist Larry Willis, received international acclaim, and is one of The Best 20 Vocal Jazz CDs of 2009, according to jazz critic W. Royal Stokes at Jazz House Diaries. Marten is editor/designer of the Baltimore Jazz Alliance monthly newsletter, to which she contributes articles. She is a board member and consultant at The Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center, and she is producing a compilation jazz CD for the center that will help provide scholarships for its Summer Arts Program for Gifted Youth.
